Children's Health
Physical Growth and Developmental Milestones
While every child is unique, there are certain milestones your child is expected to progress towards at different times.
When there seems to be a delay in your child’s physical, language, emotional, social or cognitive development, you may feel anxious or even blame yourself as a parent.
As your Family Doctors, we are here to help you to monitor your child’s development.
We do so by regularly reviewing your child, addressing your concerns, and providing relevant examination and updated information to empower you as a parent.
If the need arises, we involve Allied Health Professionals and collaborate with our Paediatric colleagues in a team effort to promote your child’s health and wellbeing.
"It is exciting to watch your Newborn thrive and mature to reach each milestone."

Immunisations
At the time of your child’s routine vaccinations, we as your Family Doctor also take the opportunity to perform a health check for your child to ensure his/her development and growth are on track.
We also take time to address your concerns as parents, e.g. nutrition and feeding for your child, parenting issues, and additional vaccinations not included in the public funded schedule.
"Immunisation from an early age can effectively protect your child against serious infectious diseases."
For all your child’s vaccinations or catch-up schedule, please book your bulk-billed appointment by clicking the BOOK NOW button or by calling us on 07 3341 7244.
Additional free vaccinations are available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and for medically at-risk children.
Seasonal influenza vaccination is recommended by the QLD government for children of all ages and is free for those under the age of 5 years.

"Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases affecting children."
Some of the signs that your child may have Asthma:
- Taking a long time to recover from a cold
- Frequent bouts of respiratory illnesses
- Coughs, wheezes, short of breath easily during exercises
Asthma Management
The diagnosis of asthma can be difficult in very young children.
So when you take your child for a consultation with the doctors, we take time to explore your child’s pattern of illness and family history, examine your child and then formulate an action plan to manage your child’s condition.
We emphasise that treatment of asthma is not all about medications. You can assist in the successful management of your child’s asthma by implementing lifestyle interventions and environmental modifications.
Some examples are to minimise environmental allergens such as dust mites or pollens, to detect and avoid food which produce allergies, and discourage adults to smoke in the house or around your child.

Behavioural Management
As a parent, you may know intuitively that your child is different from the peers. Your child’s unique behaviour may stand out at school so teachers make comments on the report cards.
You may even feel like a failure as a parent because your child’s behaviour is disruptive to your family dynamic.
But your child’s challenging, odd or naughty behaviour does not necessarily indicate a behavioural disorder such as ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder).
There may be other factors contributing to your child’s behavioural pattern such as developmental, medical and psychological conditions and even lifestyle matters which can be reversible.
That is why we encourage you to book in early with your doctor for a thorough assessment of your child if you are concerned or start to notice any behavioural issue.
"We know your journey as a parent can be tough, so we love to support you in a non-judgmental setting where you can receive unbiased information to make the best medical decision for your child and your family."
If a behavioural disorder is diagnosed, we as your Family Doctor will liaise with a network of health professionals including the Paediatricians, Psychiatrists and Psychologists, and Allied Health Professionals.
And treatment does not necessarily require medication.
With the correct management plan, you can potentially see your child’s behaviour improve in all measures at home and at school.
"More than ¼ of Australian Children are obese or overweight."
Childhood Obesity
Obese children do not just have more ‘puppy fat’, and are more likely to develop obesity and related chronic diseases in adulthood.
They may have poor body image and low self-esteem.
Therefore, if you feel your child is overweight, it is important to address these concerns early so that healthy habits can be formed before the weight issue becomes too hard to reverse.
