Senior Patient's Health

seniior patients health

Are you or your loved ones becoming forgetful, especially of recent events? Have you noticed any changes in personality?

Do simple day-to-day tasks seem increasingly difficult to manage and organise?

All these may be symptoms of Dementia.

Cognitive Assessment (Memory Test, Screening for Dementia)

Getting older does not mean your memory should fade. If you notice a decline in your cognition, do not accept it automatically as part of aging.

You should see your Family Doctor for assessment as soon as possible.

"In some cases if the cause for your memory problem is identified early, your cognitive function can be reversed and restored."

Even with Alzheimer’s disease for which there is no cure, early detection of it allows you to plan treatment and use medications to potentially assist with your symptoms and maintain your quality of life.

Because we understand how important it is for our senior patients to remain active and independent, we highly recommend for you to consider taking the Cognitive Assessment regularly to ensure you stay at your top form!

Annual Health Assessment for Over 75-Year-Olds

How do you feel about growing old?

A lot of people associate old age automatically with poor health, cognitive decline and loneliness.

But that does not have to be your definition of aging.

Changes are inevitable with aging, but as your Family Doctors, we want to help you to maintain your fitness and mental health, so you can continue to engage in the activities you love and enjoy.

"If you are over 75 years old, we highly recommend for you to undertake an annual Health Assessment. "

It is a comprehensive evaluation of your physical, cognitive and social functioning.

It is a great tool for your Doctor to identify health issues which can be addressed early and potentially reversed.

The Health Assessment is performed by both our friendly Nurse and your regular Doctor, and we use this opportunity to discuss any specific health concerns you or your family may raise.

Are you over 75 years old or have a chronic medical condition which can affect your driving ability?

If so, the Queensland Government requires you to have a Driver Licence Medical Assessment regularly. This can be done simply at your Doctor’s.

"Our priority is to ensure you and your passengers are safe on the road."

Driver Licence Medical Assessment

We understand most of our senior patients are still very active and being able to drive allows you the independence and convenience to still enjoy the activities you love.

As our duty of care to you, we carefully take into consideration your physical and cognitive functions and perform an eye test and relevant examinations during the Assessment.

Covid-19 update 2023

In line with Queensland Health we are currently following the traffic light system. The traffic light level – red, amber, or green – is based on the current level of risk in the community. Currently Queensland is on a green light with the following advice:

Green (baseline) means there are low rates of community transmission and Queensland is not in a COVID-19 wave.

When the traffic light is Green, we recommend you:
– stay home if you’re sick
– keep up to date with your vaccinations
– maintain good hygiene

– wear a mask if required by a healthcare provider, venue, or household.

If you get COVID-19:
– stay home until you’re well again
– wear a mask for 7 days after you test positive
– avoid visiting hospitals, aged care, or disability care for 7 days after you test unless you are receiving care
– ask household members to closely monitor symptoms.

Patients who have symptoms will still be asked to wait in their car/outside or book a telehealth appointment if eligible.

Covid-19 vaccinations are available for all eligible patients. We currently have Pfizer adult and children vaccinations available.

We will keep you updated on here and our Facebook and Instagram pages.
